The Flintstones premiered on ABC on September 30, 1960. The series was the first prime time cartoon series on television. The show is about the Flintstones and their neighbors the Rubbles, who lived in the stone-age. Fred Flintstone is loud, boisterous, and often demanding as he does what he thinks is best, often accompanied by his friend and neighbor Barney Rubble. Their wives Wilma and betty listened when they wanted to and preteneded to listen, but did what they wanted, when it wasn't. Children for both families were introduced during the show, in the form of Bamm-Bamm Rubble and Pebbles Flintstone, and pets lived in each household. The men worked, the women stayed at home, kept the house, and raised the children. In short, your basic 1960's family living in prehistoric times.
