Kitchen Stadium once again opens its doors to find a new culinary warrior in the sizzling primetime series The Next Iron Chef. The series returns for a second season on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 9pm ET/PT.
In the premiere episode of the second season, ten new chefs are introduced. Each is vying for the coveted title of Iron Chef America and the right to cook alongside Mario Batali, Bobby Flay, Cat Cora, Masahau Morimoto, and Michael Symon. This first of ten tests takes place in Los Angeles, When the Chairman introduces their challenge, it is a big vague at first so Host Alton Brown explains. Each chef has been given a different ingredient, one personally selected for them by the Chairman. They must cook a dish using that ingredient that tells a story about themselves. The ingredients range from beer, to matzoh, to masa, to mango and more. The usual chaos ensues as each chef attempts to prepare a dish worthy of the ingredient and their talents, while infusing it with some element of themself or their life.
When it is time for the judging Alton Brown throws a new twist at the chefs. They will be tasting and judging each other's dishes and they will decide the winner for this test. No one will be eliminated after the judging, but the winner will have an advantage for the next test. As the chefs try and critique each other rivalries emerge, as does a clear winner. How the competitive nature of the chefs and the animosity between some that arose in this episode will play out during the season can only be guessed, but it will make things interesting, There's never a dull day in Kitchen Stadium!
