Pilot Kath agrees to let her daughter Kim move back home after her separation from her husband. However, and much to Kim's surprise, things are not the same as before since Kath refuses to give in to Kim's every wish like she has in the past.
Respect Kath wants to put her business "Good Hair Day" on the map. With the local mall's "Prom-enade" event right around the corner, Phil uses his connections at the mall to get Kath a booth. Later, Kath recruits Kim to model her new edgy and fun hairstyles like the "flying wedge" in the hair show. Meanwhile, Craig finds a new job after Kim gets him fired from the Circuit Surplus, but Kim's antics land him in hot water on the first day of work.
Old Kath cannot wait to start planning her big wedding to Phil, but her insecurities kick in after Kim comments that maybe her mother is too old to be getting married and having an extravagant event. Kath starts to believe that Kim is right and is later convinced when she catches Phil with a younger woman. Meanwhile, Kim has a suspicion that her estranged husband, Craig, is having an affair. In order to learn the truth, she enlists a little help from her second best friend, Angel.
Money Kath is well into planning her wedding to Phil and kicks it into overdrive when she finds the perfect wedding dress. Even though Phil would rather have a small intimate affair, Kath decides to design a lavish wedding around her fairy tale dress. Unfortunately Kath's new ideas are more expensive than she expected and she must find a way to pay for the wedding of her dreams. Meanwhile, when Kim finds out breeding Craig's dog Ginger could lead to some major cash, she is finally interested in getting back with her estranged husband.
Dating Kath lets Phil fulfill one of his fantasies involving strawberries even though she is horribly allergic - a fact she keeps secret. Kim convinces Kath that Phil could easily be keeping secrets too and perhaps she does not know anything about her fiance. Kath becomes paranoid and begins to believe that she is engaged to a complete stranger. Meanwhile, Kim refuses to go back to Craig until he gets rid of his dog Ginger. In order to teach him a lesson, she and her friend Tina go speed dating at the Courtyard Marriot.
Jealousy Phil is excited that his best friend Sandy Freckle is in town for a visit, but Kath does not appreciate how Sandy treats her man after she sees the dynamics of their friendship firsthand. Kath must decide whether she should say something for Phil's sake or keep her opinions to herself, to avoid damaging Phil's relationship with Sandy. Meanwhile, Craig's new friend Derrick is convinced that Kim has Craig whipped. In order to prove his friend wrong, Craig begins to say no to Kim's constant and numerous requests, forcing Kim to find another lackey to get what she wants.
Gay Kath has an awkward moment with a gay couple while shopping for her wedding stationary. Meanwhile, Kath begins to question Kim's new friendship with an old high school classmate. Phil becomes self-conscious after a hairy situation occurs.
Sacrifice The stress from wedding planning is taking its toll on Kath) and giving her insomnia. Phil suggests that Kath visit his life coach and spiritual advisor Athena Scooberman. Kath agrees and is quickly taken with Athena and her teachings, but Phil soon realizes that his advice may have been a big mistake. Meanwhile, Kim must pay her outstanding parking tickets in order to get a boot removed from her car. Instead of paying the price, she asks Craig to help her get out of the bind no matter the cost.
Friends In an effort to find some "couple friends," Kath and Phil decide to host a Christmas Party with the mall security guard, Pete and his wife as the guests of honor. Meanwhile, Kim and Craig find their friendship with Derrick is put to the test at the annual Circuit Surplus Holiday bash.
Kim sets out to be the new anchorwoman for the local news station and Kath does everything in her power to make her daughter's dream come true. Meanwhile, Craig accidentally hits Phil's prized car Little Debbie and then inadvertently gets it confiscated by the police.
Desire Kath and Phil plan a romantic evening together, but their night is ruined when Kim and Craig come home from a dinner date earlier than expected. Any chance for romance is thrown out the window when Kim and Craig have a public fight after he refuses to fund her newest business venture - a lingerie party. Kath is embarrassed by her daughter's behavior and decides to solve all her problems by fixing Kim's marriage. She puts her plan into motion, which includes asking Phil to give Craig tips on how to be more like him and financing Kim's party.
