Season 4 of Psych premieres on USA Network on August 7, 2009.
Shawn and Gus take a ski vacation to Whistler, Canada and while strolling across the resort Gus sees a wanted art thief named Pierre Despereaux. Despereaux takes off skiing and Gus and Shawn follow. It becomes quickly apparent that the boys cannot ski as well as Pierre, in fact they can barely ski at all. They ski out of bounds off the course and end up on a road, narrowly avoiding being hit by cars. They go to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Mounties) to report the situation and Shawn tells the officer he is a psychic. He convinces them using his usual observations as tricks. Detective Lassiter has been tracking Despereaux for quite a while and is annoyed that Shawn has found him. Lassiter flies up to Canada and as soon as he arrives he learns that Despereaux has already struck. A multi-million dollar necklace was taken from a house and Shawn uses his deductions to convince the Mounties that he is using his mind to figure out the crime. Shawn realizes Despereaux has gone up to the roof of the building, but when he and Gus go up there no one follows and Despereaux parachutes from the roof and gets away again. When Gus and Shawn tell the Mounties and Lassiter what happened, no one believes them and they look foolish. They go to a nice restaurant for dinner and Despereaux is already there. He invites them over and tells them he is neither known nor wanted in Canada. He explains they are out of their league and that they will never catch them. In order to make things more interesting for Despereaux, he tells the boys everything he is going to do. While the guys are distracted, Despereaux disappears. Shawn and Gus have to do some unusual psychic readings for the police and things get a bit strange. How Gus and Shawn manage to catch Despereaux is worth watching!
On a field trip in 1987, when Gus and Shawn are children, they try to sneak away so they can ride a dolphin and they get caught by his father. Rather than getting mad at them, he tells them they need to make it more of a challenge to catch them when they plan to do something they shouldn't. Fast forward to present day when Gus tricks Shawn into going with him to a funeral, only Gus won't say whose funeral it is. It turns out the funeral is for a sea lion who had been rescued by a local aquarium, only to die tragically when he was later released back into the ocean. While paying their respects (Gus doing so seriously while Shawn is sarcastic) at the sea lion's casket, Shawn tells Gus he believe the sea lion was murdered. A woman overhears them and pulls them aside to ask why they think the sea lion was killed. She says she has seen a lot of suspicious things at the aquarium. She asks to meet with them later to talk about it. It turns out the sea lion was supposed to have been released at a later date, but because of a celebrity appearance. The guys sneak into the aquarium to find clues about the death of the sea lion. They find the release was nowhere near where it was supposed to be. While at the aquarium, Shawn decides this is his one chance to ride a dolphin like he wanted to do in 1987. Naturally, they get caught. The police department gets involved and things get stranger from there. As the guys find out the truth, they learn more than they might have wanted.
If you watched "Psych" last two seasons, then you know what a quirky show it is. If you didn't, you really missed out on a great show but now is your chance to start watching. The third season premieres on USA Network on July 18, 2008.
This episode starts off where the last one ended. Shawn opens the door to find his mother standing there. A bit of prodding allows him to find out that his father knew she was coming to town, but never got around to telling him. Meanwhile, Gus' boss sees a photo of him and Shawn on the cover of the newspaper from the last case they solved and he is not happy. He reminds Gus of the clause in his contract that prohibits him from having a second job. Gus tells him that is just a hobby to him, more like community service, but he doesn't go for it. Gus is given a choice between being fired or quitting Psych and he chooses the latter. Shawn refuses to accept that Gus is quitting and decided to do something about it. Before he has the chance, the vice president of the company tells Gus he needs his help and before you know it Psych is back in business. "Fearless" Guster arrives at the house they are checking and is slightly surprised by Shawn. After some slightly unusual things occur and what seems like an actual ghost is sighted, Gus proves not to be quite so fearless and Shawn is not nearly as skeptical as normal as the ghost causes mischief. What they find, how they handle it, what happens with Gus' job, and the future of Psych are all on the line in this episode.
